STUART TOWN

An architectural, historical and poetic interpretation of memory and place… A public artwork commemorating 140 years of Stuart Town Railway Station in the central west of New South Wales (Wiradjuri Country).

It is in the form of a skeleton of the former building, the Lamp Shed.  A ghost shed, a memory shed - incorporating the worn and cracked concrete base, five free standing steel frames, and a slate stele with Henry Lawson’s poem, On The Night Train, hand cut by master letter cutter Ian Marr. The framework is transparent; allowing views of stands of Ironbarks; glimpses of the hills, the station building, platform, tracks and trains…
